Simon Wegerif is a World leading expert on Heart Rate Variability, and how we can use HRV to make our training more effective. Rob saw Simon speak the TrainingPeaks Endurance Coaching Summit 2018, and took the opportunity to get him on the show to see what we can all learn about this relatively new science. In short, HRV gives us an insight into the TOTAL overall stress on our system in an easy to understand metric. As we’ve suspected for years, the science backs up the theory that training stress isn’t the only (or even, the main) source of stress on our bodies - and we find out how, by monitoring HRV, we can get more out of our limited training time. Most importantly, it may well give us information on how we can help avoid illness and injury!
