On September 2nd 2013 Camilla Pedersen was in the form of her life. She had won the Ironman and Ironman 70.3 European titles earlier that summer and was preparing for the World Championships in Hawaii. The following day she was in an induced coma in hospital, following a crash during her final training ride in Denmark. She remained in a coma for 19 days. Doctors told her she would never walk again, let alone do a triathlon. Remarkably, just a year later, Camilla was crowned ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Champion. This interview goes way beyond swim-bike-run.!
In this interview you’ll hear:
The meaning of mental toughness taken to a whole new level.
More about Camilla’s on-going recovery from a fractured skull in two places, a broken hip, collarbone and ribs.
An important lesson in making sure YOU spend time doing what YOU love
Why you should regularly train with people who will “kick your ass”
About the time Camilla thought Rasmus Henning was a salesman!
And...why Camilla’s English can sometimes be better than her Danish
We also have a short but inspiring interview with age grouper Peter McCleave, who was diagnosed with Myeloma just after completing Ironman Wales in 2016. He's set up the website 10000donors.com to increase the number of stem cell donors, and to help find matches for people who are diagnosed with Myeloma.
In Coaches Couch this week, you’ll hear Coach Rob talk about the importance of regular testing. This week, he covers bike fitness testing - and why knowing what to do with the results of the test is more important than the test result itself. You can find all the details of how to complete your bike fitness testing, and what to do with the results, by watching our free webinar for age-groupers with limited training time, training for Ironman & 70.3 using Team Oxygenaddict’s T.I.M.E.
