Matt Bottrill is fast becoming the 'go to' coach for pro triathletes who want to optimise their performance on the bike. He works with Tim Don, Lucy Charles, Will Clarke and Ironman World Record holder Matt Hanson. As an athlete, Matt held over 20 national championship wins in cycling and his knowledge of how to break down 'going fast' is second to none.
In this interview, we find out some of the secrets to going fast on a bike - and surprisingly, he doesn't think it's all about training! We learn his bike fit secrets and body position recommendations - his coaching philosophy is all about finding the available free speed. 'I had to find 65 watts to win the National 10 mile championships, and it wasn't just through training,' he tells us.
Matt is a funny, kind and humble coach, and is a real student of the sport - he loves finding out what works, and loves to pass that on to other people. We loved this conversation, and think that you will too.
